  • acid
It is sour and caustic in higher concentration, its pH value is between 1 and 7.

  • base
It makes the skin slippery and it is caustic in higher concentration. Its pH value is between 7 and 14.

  • hydrochloric acid
The hydrogen chloride is a colourless, toxic gas of prickly smelling which is heavier than air. Its aqueous solution is the hydrochloric acid.

  • hydroxide ion
After passing one proton down the water molecule becomes negative charged hydroxide ion.

  • ion
Under the influence of energy the atoms and molecules will lose their neutral reaction, namely they can pass over or take up electrons. During ionization the particle becomes positive or negative charged, depending on whether it has passed over or taken up the electrons.

  • M
= mole/dm3. It is unit of the solution concentration. Concentration = quantity of solute/volume of the solution.

  • oxonium ion
The water molecule and a proton connected to it may become positive charged oxonium ion.

  • proton
Elementary particle of the nucleus. It has a positive charge.

  • sodium hydroxide
White coloured compound which is solid at room temperature. It can be easily solved. Its aqueous solution has a strong basic reaction.

  • solution
The solution consists of solvent and one or more solutes.

  • vinegar
Liquid in a clear state. This is the material which is used in the household for flavouring of meals.
